One of the changes that I first noticed when moving back to my home in the Inner West of Sydney was all the amazing murals that had popped up around the place. Previously there was just lots of tags and graffiti littering the walls but over the past few years it seems that Marrickville Council has been gentrifying the area through its initiative, Perfect Match, which pairs local property owners with artists to promote legitimate creativity and art in public spaces.
So one sunny Saturday, I took myself out to do a bit of a tour of the works around home. Here’s just a taste of what’s out there.
Murals by Fintan Magee just off Newtown’s King Street.
The side streets down the southern end of King Street have lots going on.
I turned off King Street and strolled down Alice Street…
